PEMF and State Fair and Expo regulations

Regulation of PEMF at State Fairs and Expos: Current Climate and Advocating for Change

PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field) therapy has gained recognition for its potential to enhance the well-being of both animals and humans. However, the use of PEMF at state fairs and association fairs is currently limited by the regulations set forth by the International Association of Fairs and Expos (IAFE). The IAFE’s “show ring code of ethics” prohibits the use of many modalities, including PEMF, on fairgrounds. This presents a significant barrier for practitioners and business owners seeking to provide PEMF therapy at these events.

It’s important to note that most state fairs or association fairs are members of the IAFE, and they are expected to abide by the organization’s ethical guidelines. These regulations are enforced at the discretion of the officials in charge of each event. This means that in order to bring about policy changes, it is crucial for those advocating for PEMF to engage with the fair boards or committees and work towards educating them about the importance of PEMF therapy for animals and the businesses that provide this service.

The Association of PEMF Professionals (AOPP) has been at the forefront of efforts to address this issue, sending emails and attempting to mitigate the challenges practitioners face. However, further practitioner and manufacturer support is needed to drive meaningful change at the state fair and expo level. It is vital for individuals in the industry to actively participate in conversations with fair officials, providing insights into the benefits and safety of PEMF therapy.

Notably, individuals can also directly communicate with the IAFE and request a review and potential revision of their policies regarding the use of modalities, including PEMF therapy. Collaborative efforts from practitioners, industry organizations, and supporters are essential to emphasize the necessity of embracing modern modalities for the welfare of animals and the continued development of the PEMF industry.

The AOPP is ready and willing to engage with the IAFE to address any concerns related to uneducated practitioners and seeking an open dialogue with the leadership of the organization. We need the support of manufacturers and industry leaders to effect this change. This proactive approach demonstrates how industry stakeholders can work collectively with fair associations to ensure that regulations align with the best practices and advancements in animal care and wellness therapies.

Ultimately, forging ahead with these efforts, practitioners, industry organizations, and advocates of PEMF therapy can contribute to building an inclusive environment at state fairs and expos that allows for the responsible and beneficial use of modalities such as PEMF. This collaboration aims to create a platform for education, understanding, and progressive change, benefiting both the animals and business owners involved in the PEMF industry.
In conclusion, the regulation of PEMF at state fairs and expos should not be viewed as a static barrier, but rather an opportunity for practitioners and advocates to engage with fair associations, influence policies, and foster a more inclusive environment that supports advancements in animal wellness and care.
